I admit, as a dog owner, I may overindulge my Chocolate Labrador, Nestlé, in the luxuries of life. She goes to doggy daycare instead of being boarded, on occasion, she's rewarded with a gourmet dog treat instead of a dry bone, and once, she may have been styled in a silly dog outfit (Possibly a jersey supporting Ohio State!). So, when it comes to recreation for my beloved canine daughter from another species, I seek out exclusive social gatherings for her to network with her own kind, i.e. dog parks. There are a number in Ohio that are worth a trip.
The first time Nestlé swam was at Big Walnut Dog Park in Columbus. I was scared, as any mother would be, but being the lab she is, she took to the water right away. Big Walnut Dog Park has three acres of fenced-in doggy bliss including ponds, lighting for evening use and even a separate area for small dogs to frolic.
Another doggy resort is Bow Wow Beach in Stow. Nestlé took advantage of the 7.5 acres of land where dogs can run free, and enjoy a fresh-water dog station, an agility park, sandy beaches, and a dock for the adventurous pup to leap off of (not my Nestlé). There are also activities for your dog to participate in, including a dog Birthday Bash every summer.
In the Cleveland area, Nestlé loves to gather with friends in South Euclid, Lakewood and Mentor. The South Euclid Dog Park features a four-foot high chain link fence, double-gated entry, a fresh water spigot and shaded park benches. The park hosts two annual pooch events -- a Halloween party and a Dog Walk.
At Lakewood’s Dog Park, Nestlé communed with her west side friends and cheered them on at the Lakewood Parade this Fourth of July.
And at the Mentor Dog Park she played in a secured fenced area that features agility equipment, a doggy water fountain, and park benches for me.
There are a great number of places to take your dog throughout this great state, so there is no need to leave him/her at home when you travel this summer. For more great dog parks and pet friendly places, check out www.doggoes.com/parks/ohio.
