The Ohio State Fair encourages kids to get their creative juices flowing. Creative Corner, a new addition to the Fair sponsored by American Family Insurance, provides an outlet for children to use their imaginations in a unique setting.
The moment you walk into this open-air pavilion, you’re greeted by a huge sidewalk chalk mural. Dozens of visitors contribute throughout the day to create the final, colorful masterpiece. At a table nearby, staff help kids create make-and-take crafts out of recycled materials. One craft included taking plastic bottle caps and gluing them to old CDs to create homemade spinning tops.
Taking center stage (literally) is an interactive work of art. The piece, titled “In This Great State,” is a stage set that is constructed throughout the Fair. Artist Adam Brouillette thought up the idea four years ago while painting a mural on the Cox Fine Arts building. Fairgoers repeatedly posed with the mural and posted their pictures to social media sites. Brouillette decided to give them something more exciting.
This year he is constructing a stage set out of raw materials. The final product will be an interpretation of Ohio landscape that fairgoers are able to interact with and step inside. Brouillette and a team of professional photographers will take pictures of visitors with the art, which can then be purchased online. He will also display the photos on his website as a slideshow.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this one-of-a-kind artwork and partake in all of the other crafts at Creative Corner, located inside Kiddieland.
