The calendar shows it's still summer for a few more days, so make the most of it with a trip to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. Any time of year is a beautiful time to visit, but I'm especially awe-inspired by the beauty of this magnificent estate as we transition to fall. The manor house is striking against the crisp, blue sky and signs of autumn are trickling in throughout the gardens.
Stan Hywet is the former home to the co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, F.A. Seiberling and his wife Gertrude. This year, Stan Hywet focuses on the Art of Living Beautifully and the Seiberling era during the early 20th century and the luxuries that defined it. Honoring Gertrude's sense of style and taste, this yearlong theme includes major exhibits throughout the estate.
Be sure not to miss the Finer Things: Jewelry and Accessories from the 1880's - 1930's, ending October 7. Stunning gems are on display in the Manor House's Music Room. More than 100 fine pieces of the era are displayed including F.A. Seiberling's presentation watch seen on the Antique Road Show. The exhibit is guest curated by Elise Zorn Karlin, and is an impressive display of jewelry lent by collectors and dealers including exquisite examples of fin de siècle necklaces, brooches, earrings and bracelets.
Also displayed is Stan Hywet's clothing collection including Gertrude's wedding dress from 1887. After exploring the Manor House, stroll the gardens and visit the Corbin Conservatory.
Feast your senses on the sights and smells of everything citrus at the Citrus Garden: Luxury of the Day. This exhibit runs through October 28 and focuses on the history and use of indoor citrus gardens during the early 20th century. You can even learn how to create your own indoor citrus garden with information provided throughout the exhibit. As the temperatures change outside, the fragrant citrus, flowers and the visuals of oranges, greens and yellows of the trees will warm your senses.
If you are ready for a true autumn experience, mark your calendar for Stan Hywet's 46th annual Ohio Mart and the 43rd annual Stitchery Showcase October 4-7. With the historic landscapes gardens and grounds as a backdrop, Ohio Mart features more than 100 exhibitors, artist demos, food and more.
